UCF Knights FootballIt’s a big year coming up for UCF football. On August 29th the Knights start their inaugural year in the newly formed American Athletic Conference. It will be a season that will include exciting matchups against two preseason top 10 teams, South Carolina and Louisville, a game against one of the classic teams in college football, Penn State and the rebirth of the rivalry against Tampa’s USF Bulls.

And if you are one of those hardcore Knight fans who just can’t wait almost four more weeks for the season to begin, you are in luck! UCF’s first two and a half weeks of Fall practice will be open to the public until classes begin August 19th.

The practices take place every day from 3:20 until 5:30pm and are a great way to support the Knights and get a preseason glimpse at the hometown team in action. Heading out to UCF for a practice is a fun way to spend a weekend afternoon with family or a great excuse to cut out early from work one day.

When you get to UCF’s campus, the best thing to do is head towards the plaza near the Tower dorms. Once there, you can take either road next to the new basketball arena and find garage F, which stands for FREE! Probably not, but it is free. Which is always nice. From the parking garage it is a short walk to the practice facility located directly next to Bright House Stadium on the South side of the building.ucf-helmet

A big black wall surrounds the practice field but there are entrances for the public to come and go as they please. Fans can get a great up-close and personal view of the players and coaches in action by standing right on the sidelines of the practice field. Yellow signs with matching dotted lines on the turf mark off areas that are O.K. for the public to watch from. Some people bring camping chairs but most others stand and watch.

Once practice is finished, it isn’t a bad idea to stop by one of the nearby eateries on campus.  The Towers plaza has plenty of choices where you can eat like a college king! You can stop by one of the staples of college cuisine and get some cheap eats at places like Jimmy Johns, Dominoes Pizza or Subway, you can get a snack at Starbucks, or some tasty Japanese hibachi-style at Kyoto.
