There’s a new restaurant in Conway called La Fiesta Mexican Grill, located at 2420 Curry Ford Road. It just opened today so I thought I’d stop in and try it out. When I first entered the restaurant, I was the only one there so I asked the owner if they were open and he said ye, hey had been open for about 2 hours so I chose a booth by the window. The owner came right over handed me a menu and took my drink order. They will have fountain drinks, but only had canned / bottled drinks today which was fine. He also brought chips & salsa and I order queso cheese dip. Queso dip was very good — it had jalapenos in it, but was not too spicy.
For lunch I order a Speedy Gonzales, which consisted of a taco and enchilada. I prefer beef rather than chicken, but I’m sometimes leery of ordering beef in a Mexican restaurant because it can be greasy. However, their menu said they only used lean ground beef so I gave it a shot. Rice also accompanied the taco and enchilada. It took what seemed like 5 minutes for the food to arrive, piping hot. Everything was very tasty. The enchilada sauce had good favoring without too much heat, the taco was nice and crunchy, and the rice was flavorful. The cost was $5.99 (lunch price). They had quite a few ‘simple’ Mexican dishes at $5.99, bigger entrees at $6.99, and items such as fajitas for $7.99. All of these are lunch prices with the dinner prices being slightly higher.
I talked to the owner for a few minutes and he said his family had been in the restaurant business for 20+ years in Virginia, Georgia and Florida. They own(ed) several restaurants in Orlando including one in Longwood, one on Lake Underhill and few others around town. I think a couple of those have closed, but they received good Yelp and Urbanspoon ratings when they opened.
They don’t serve any alcoholic beverages yet, including beer and wine. He said he was working on being able to sell at least beer & wine, but had some hoops to jumped through for zoning, etc.
I really enjoyed my lunch and the owner was very nice. He has been in the restaurant business for a long time so hopefully he’ll be able to make it work in a spot where nothing else has seemed to flourish. I hope the Conway community supports La Fiesta Mexican Grill.
