Beefy King Celebrates 45 Anniversary
I have been eating at Beefy King for as long as I can remember. I was 5 years old when they opened and we would go to Ronnie’s for breakfast, then hit Colonial Mall all day and eat at Beefy King. This restaurant has been owned by the same family for the entire 45 years. Of course, a younger generation of the family is now in charge, but still the same family.
This is one of my top 10 favorite ‘old-school’ Orlando restaurants so of course I had to go check it out when I heard they were celebrating 45 years. I headed down there on Saturday about 11:30 and go in line. It wasn’t too hot, but the family was outside handing out water just to make sure no one was affected for the heat. It only took about 15 minutes to reach the head of the line. They knew that it was going to be crazy so their menu consisted of a roast beef sandwich, a ham sandwich, tater tots, drinks and shakes. I ordered two beef sandwiches, two orders of tots and two drinks. When I looked around for my husband, he was sitting with another couple. The man had been one of the first Beefy King employees back in the day. We reminisced about old Orlando and how much that area, as well as all of Orlando, had changed over the last 45 years. As we were dining, they brought us several pieces of cake, a huggie and a pen to commemorate the anniversary.
We finished our lunch and headed over to purchase a t-shirt and then headed out.
It was very enjoyable to be part of their celebration and to have lunch with someone who been in Orlando as long, if not longer, than I had.
